A Ready-to-Implement E-Bike Safety Education Solution

Helping schools and communities turn e-bike safety policy into action

Electric Bike Academy provides a structured, scalable way for schools, districts, cities, counties, and states to deliver meaningful e-bike safety education to young riders and their families.

Whether your community is responding to a new law, developing a local ordinance, creating a school requirement, or looking for a safer way to educate riders before problems occur, EBA can be implemented quickly and adapted to meet local needs.

Who We Are

Electric Bike Academy is an online e-bike safety education program created by experienced driver education and road safety curriculum professionals.

We developed EBA in response to a growing concern shared by parents, educators, law enforcement agencies, and community leaders: young riders are gaining access to increasingly powerful electric bikes, often without receiving formal instruction on traffic laws, safe riding practices, equipment, or responsible decision-making.

EBA provides that missing educational foundation in a format that is engaging for students, informative for parents, and practical for the organizations responsible for implementation.

One Program. Many Ways to Implement It.

Electric Bike Academy can support a wide range of policies and community safety initiatives.

Schools and School Districts

EBA can be offered as:

  • A student e-bike registration or parking permit requirement
  • A prerequisite for riding an e-bike to school
  • Part of a districtwide transportation or safety initiative
  • A middle school or high school safety education program
  • A disciplinary or restorative education option
  • A complement to an in-person presentation, skills course, or law enforcement program
  • A voluntary resource for students and families

Cities and Counties

EBA can support:

  • Youth e-bike safety ordinances
  • Local permitting or registration programs
  • Community education campaigns
  • Diversion or remedial education for cited riders
  • Recreation department programming
  • Grant-funded traffic safety initiatives
  • Partnerships among schools, law enforcement, transportation agencies, and community organizations

State Agencies and Legislatures

EBA can provide a scalable delivery option for:

  • Statewide e-bike education requirements
  • Standardized youth safety instruction
  • School-based implementation
  • Public awareness and injury-prevention initiatives
  • Consistent education across multiple jurisdictions
  • Programs requiring documented participation or completion

Easy to Launch. Easy to Manage. Easy to Verify.

Because EBA is delivered online, organizations do not need to hire instructors, coordinate multiple training dates, reserve facilities, or develop an e-bike curriculum from the ground up.

Students can complete the program from a computer, tablet, or mobile device. Participating organizations can receive implementation support, track completion, and establish a clear method for verifying that required education has been completed.

The program can be deployed across a single school, an entire district, a municipality, or a statewide initiative while maintaining a consistent educational experience.

A straightforward implementation process

01

Define the requirement

Determine who should complete the course and when completion will be required.

02

Customize the program

Add jurisdiction-specific laws, policies, age restrictions, registration procedures, or community resources when appropriate.

03

Enroll riders and families

Provide participating students with a direct registration link, access code, or organization-specific enrollment process.

04

Complete and document training

Students complete the online instruction, required knowledge checks, and parent component.

05

Verify completion

Schools or agencies can confirm completion through established reporting or certificate-verification procedures.

Education for Riders—and Their Parents

E-bike safety does not begin and end with the student.

Parents and guardians frequently make decisions about which bike to purchase, where a child may ride, what equipment is required, and whether the rider is mature enough to operate an e-bike safely. Yet many parents are unfamiliar with e-bike classifications, age restrictions, helmet requirements, passenger rules, battery safety, or the differences between legal e-bikes and electric motorcycles.

EBA includes parent education and acknowledgment so families can make informed decisions and reinforce safe riding expectations at home.

What Students Learn

Electric Bike Academy addresses the knowledge young riders need before entering streets, bike lanes, paths, and school campuses, including:

The three legal classes of e-bikes
The difference between an e-bike and an electric motorcycle
Traffic laws and right-of-way rules
Helmet selection and proper use
Visibility, signaling, and road positioning
Intersections, driveways, parked vehicles, and other common hazards
Speed management and stopping distance
Sidewalk, bike-lane, and shared-path considerations
Passenger and group-riding safety
Distraction, earbuds, and mobile-device use
Responsible riding and avoiding dangerous stunts
Route planning and rider readiness
Battery, charging, and fire safety
Theft prevention and secure locking practices

Knowledge checks throughout the course reinforce essential concepts and help demonstrate that students have engaged with the material.

Built to Be Adapted

E-bike laws and community needs are not identical everywhere. A coastal city may face different riding conditions than a suburban school district or rural county. Local rules concerning rider age, sidewalks, helmets, passengers, registration, and where particular classes of e-bikes may be operated can also vary.

Electric Bike Academy can be evaluated, customized, or piloted to align with local requirements. This flexibility allows policymakers to establish meaningful safety requirements without requiring their staff to build and maintain an entire educational program internally.

  • State and local e-bike laws
  • School district policies
  • Municipal ordinances
  • Agency learning objectives
  • Local enforcement priorities
  • Community-specific riding conditions
  • Required parent acknowledgments
  • Certificate, reporting, or verification procedures

Designed to Complement Local Programs

Online education and in-person instruction serve different—but complementary— purposes.

EBA can provide consistent foundational knowledge before students participate in a bicycle rodeo, on-bike skills course, school safety presentation, or law enforcement event. This allows in-person instructors to spend more time demonstrating skills, answering local questions, and building positive relationships with young riders.

Communities may use EBA as a stand-alone educational program or as the online component of a broader hybrid safety initiative.

A Practical Alternative to Enforcement Alone

Citations and penalties may address unsafe behavior after it occurs. Education gives communities an opportunity to intervene earlier.

EBA helps students understand not only what the rules are, but why those rules matter. It provides policymakers with a prevention-focused option that can also support warnings, diversion programs, corrective education, or other alternatives to purely punitive enforcement.

The goal is not simply course completion. The goal is better-informed riders, more engaged parents, and safer communities.

Why Communities Choose an Online Model

  • Consistent instruction for every participant
  • Flexible completion at home or through school
  • No instructor scheduling or facility requirements
  • Scalable implementation across multiple schools or jurisdictions
  • Student knowledge checks
  • Parent education and acknowledgment
  • Documented completion
  • The ability to incorporate local requirements
  • Easy integration with in-person and law enforcement programs
  • A repeatable program that can grow with the community

From Policy to Implementation

Passing an e-bike safety measure is only the first step. Communities also need a practical way to deliver the education, engage parents, document participation, and verify completion.

Electric Bike Academy helps bridge that gap.

Our team can work with your school, district, city, county, or state agency to evaluate local needs, review applicable requirements, and determine the most effective implementation model for your community.
